This session is open to all HIA and DSBA students and provides a comprehensive overview of internship, capstone,  and thesis options for the Master’s programs in Health Informatics & Analytics and Data Science & Business Analytics. Topics include internship eligibility requirements (including credit hours, tools, and project focus), proposal submission, mentor selection, and the minimum requirement of 160 contact hours. Students will learn strategies for finding internships, networking effectively, and developing strong proposals, along with suggested timelines and best practices.

Presenters:

Dr. Yaorong Ge serves as the Graduate Program Director for the Health Informatics and Analytics (HIAN) program, overseeing the program’s curriculum, including strategic design, implementation, and evaluation, as well as admissions and outcome assessments. For this session, he will focus on the Capstone requirements for HIAN students.

Dr. Mirsad Hadzikadic is the Graduate Program Director for the Data Science and Business Analytics (DSBA) program at UNC Charlotte’s School of Data Science and Director of the Complex Systems Institute. In his role as GPD, he oversees the program’s curriculum, including strategic design, implementation, and evaluation, as well as admissions and outcome assessments. For this session, he will focus on the Capstone requirements for DSBA students.

Robert Fox is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Data Science and has served as lead faculty for the HCIP/DSBA Internship courses, HCIP 6400 and DSBA 6400, for the past three years. He began his career at IBM in Charlotte in 1999 and, over the next 20+ years, became a seasoned data science practitioner and leader, most recently serving as SVP & Head of Data Science & Analytics at Bank of America Merchant Services.
