From writing proposals to developing conceptual models, managing projects, and delivering client presentations, life as a data scientist at a small company requires wearing many hats. In this 'Day in the Life of a Data Scientist' seminar, we explore the multi-faceted nature of working in a startup environment. We'll discuss essential skills and tools, the importance of refined scientific communication, and the role of continual learning, all against the backdrop of data science in the natural resources sector.

Presenter: Sam Wright, Geochemist

Bio: Samuel Wright leverages his dual expertise in data science and geochemistry to solve environmental challenges in the mining industry. Currently, at Life Cycle Geo, LLC, he analyzes geochemical data to assess mine waste and uses machine learning to optimize mine planning.  His passion for data-driven solutions is evident in his development of custom Python libraries and software for geochemical analysis, allowing for more efficient data exploration and modeling.  He earned a Master of Science in Data Science and Business Analytics from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (2022-2023), complementing his prior Master of Science in Geological and Earth Sciences obtained from Northern Arizona University (2016-2019).
