In this session, we will introduce participants to deliberative pedagogy, a unique approach to facilitating meaningful, in-depth discourse within the classroom setting. Deliberative pedagogy uses strong, agreed-upon discussion norms and a problem solving-oriented framework to help students engage deeply with complex issues. Drawing on our experience with Davidson College's Deliberative Citizens Initiative and our use of deliberative pedagogy in our own courses, we will share practical advice for instructors in any discipline who are wishing to strengthen their classroom discussions.
