DESCRIPTION:Candidate Name: Roxanne Trivette\nProgram: Nurse Anesthesia\nCo
 mmittee Chairs: Drew McGuffin\, DNP\, MSN\, RN\; David Langford\, PhD\, RN
 \, CNE\nCommittee Members: Lorraine Schoen\, DNAP\, CRNA\; Natalie Gabhart
 \, DNP\, CRNA\; Shanti Kulkarni\, PhD \nAbstract:\n\nBackground: Transitio
ning from critical care nurse to a student registered nurse anesthetist (S
RNA) poses challenges\, including increased anxiety. Despite mentorship be
nefits well documented in the literature\, the American Association of Nur
se Anesthetists (AANA) lacks formal mentorship program guidelines. \n\nPur
pose: This study obtained a needs assessment on the anxiety levels of stud
ents and current perceptions of an informal mentorship program at an R1 Un
iversity and Nurse Anesthesia Program (NAP) to make recommendations for fu
ture implementation of a formal mentorship program. \n\nMethods: A mixed-m
ethods needs assessment evaluated anxiety levels and perceptions of mentor
ship among SRNAs. Quantitative data was collected using the Generalized An
xiety Scale 7 (GAD-7)\, while qualitative data was obtained through three-
open ended questions exploring perceptions of the current informal mentors
hip structure and perceived needs for a formal mentorship program. \n\nRes
ults: There was a moderate level of increased anxiety levels among this SR
NA population. Among the free responses\, students requested more structur
ed mentorship around critical transition periods\, such as matriculation o
f didactic course work\, beginning of clinical rotations\, and transition
into independent practice upon graduation.\n\nConclusion: A moderate level
of increased anxiety levels among SRNAs presents an opportunity for impro
vement with a more formalized\, structured mentorship program at the NAP.
