DESCRIPTION:The Atkins Library Book Club is partnering with UNC Charlotte's
  Common Reading Experience for its fall 2022 book club discussion.\n\nScott
  Ellsworth\, the author of this year's common reading text The Ground Break
 ing\, will speak to the UNC Charlotte community on Thursday\, October 13 in
  Student Union 340.  The event begins at 7 p.m.  For more information conta
 ct Carla Eastis at ceastis@uncc.edu.\n\nEllsworth teaches in the Department
  of Afroamerican and African Studies at the University of Michigan.  The Gr
 ound Breaking: An American City and Its Search for Justice is his second bo
 ok about the Tulsa race massacre of 1921 and its aftermath.\n\nThe Common R
 eading Experience at UNC Charlotte provides a shared academic experience to
  assist first-year students in their transition to the university. The prog
 ram offers opportunity for self-reflection\, critical thinking\, student in
 teraction\, and understanding of diverse perspectives.\n\nThe Atkins Librar
 y book club focuses on diversity and cultural topics to spark conversations
  around equity and inclusion as well as an awareness of human differences e
 mbedded in our society and culture. Originally part of the Atkins Library S
 elf-Selected Group Development\, this book club is open to all faculty\, st
 aff\, and students\, an initiative recommended by the Provost.
