The UNC Charlotte Department of Dance presents the 2026 Faculty Dance Concert, featuring professional performances of works by Alyah Baker, Kim Jones, Kaustavi Sarkar, Ashley Tate and Tamara Williams.
Alyah Baker presents "all good things," reflecting on the good things of times past. It draws inspiration from the music, which evokes the nostalgic and bittersweet memories of the people and things we have loved and lost.
Kim Jones presents her duet, "Echoes in the Body, Where Memory Breathes." The duet examines power, care, and the quiet labor of empathy. It is shaped by remembrance, an offering to a loved one whose absence continues to move through time.
Kaustavi Sarkar performs in her solo, "Mirabai: An Art-Song Cycle," with Susan Gouthro (soprano) and Claudio Olivera (piano). The work traces the spiritual journey of the sixteenth-century mystic poet Mirabai, exploring her lifelong devotion to her personal deity Krishna through longing, communion, and eventual separation.
Ashley L. Tate performs in her duet, "What You Carry, I Hold," with featured poet, Amber Isler. This piece is rooted in resilience, grief, and the power of collective care. It explores the labor of carrying personal, historical, and communal weight, and how resilience is created through relationships rather than in isolation.
Tamara Williams performs in her trio, "Long MEmories (excerpt)," celebrating the beauty, resilience, and strength of Afro-Latina women through honoring their legacies, histories, and cultural lineages through movement explorations.
